IzPack is a one-stop solution for packaging, distributing, and deploying applications. It is fully cross-platform and generates a single installer. As such, it is an alternative to native solutions such as platform-specific installers and package managers.

iana-etc installs /etc/services and /etc/protocols using data from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. Included are snapshots of the data from the IANA, scripts to transform that data into the needed formats, and scripts to fetch the latest data.

rpmrebuild is a tool to build an RPM file from a package that has already been installed. It can be used to easily build modified packages, and works on any Linux distribution that uses RPM.

PHP Shell is a shell wrapped in a PHP script. It's a tool you can use to execute arbiritary shell-commands or browse the filesystem on your remote Web server. This replaces, to a degree, a normal telnet-connection. You can use it for administration and maintenance of your Web site using commands like ps, free, du, df, and more.

RawWrite for Windows is a replacement for the DOS-based rawrite, or rawwrite program (the DOS version does not work well under Win95, and does not work at all from NT). This version is designed to work under NT/2K/XP, and 95/98/ME. It has a simple GUI, which makes it easier for first time users to create their Linux boot disks.

Linux makes a great platform for deploying diskless workstations that boot from a network server. The LTSP is an open source project to create the administration tools that will make setting up a diskless Linux workstation easier.

Puppet lets you centrally manage every important aspect of your system using a cross-platform specification language that manages all the separate elements normally aggregated in different files, including users, cron jobs, and hosts, along with obviously discrete elements like packages, services, and files. Its simple declarative specification language provides powerful classing abilities for drawing out the similarities between hosts while allowing them to be as specific as necessary, and it handles dependency and prerequisite relationships between objects clearly and explicitly.
