ZoneCheck is intended to help solve DNS misconfigurations or inconsistencies that are usually revealed by an increase in the latency of the application. The DNS is a critical resource for every network application, so it is quite important to ensure that a zone or domain name is correctly configured in the DNS.
The Bind9 SNMP Subagent provides indexed BIND 9
statistics via SNMP output. Data, query, and graph templates are provided for Cacti.

The CMU NetReg package is a scalable and flexible
Web-based system for managing networks. It
consolidates information about DNS zones, subnets,
machine registrations, and DHCP configuration, and
provides tools for easy management. The system
exports ISC BIND configuration and zones, and can
update them via either static zone files or TSIG
signed dynamic DNS updates. It also exports ISC
DHCP configurations, and has a SOAP API for
integration with other systems.
dns.c is a recursive, re-entrant, non-blocking DNS
resolver in a single .c file. It features a
record-agnostic API, restartable record iterators,
and smart queries which recursively follow
out-of-bailiwick NS, MX, and SRV host references.
It works just as well as a stub resolver, too. It also includes spf.c, a non-blocking SPF resolver with no threading, no forking, and no run-time dependencies.

dnsadmin is a project to create programs that manage DNS servers. dnsloadzone reads a bind named.conf file, parses all the zone files found therein, and loads all the information into a MySQL database. dnsdata reads the database and creates a djbdns data file for use with tinydns. dnszone reads the database and creates a named.conf and all the associated bind zone files. dnsadmin is Web program for management of the database with authentication based on domain owners.
ProBIND is a Web application designed for managing
the DNS zones for one or more servers running the
ISC BIND DNS server software. It works best for
companies that need to manage a medium-sized pool
of domains across a set of servers.

NSC is a set of utilities for easy administration
of DNS servers. You write very simple
configuration files and NSC automatically
generates zone files, reverse zone files, and
configuration for the BIND. Among other things, it
also supports classless reverse delegations and
IPv6 addressing. NSC is written in POSIX shell and
GNU M4, and it should run on all systems where
these two languages are available. Generation of
DNS daemon config files is currently limited to
BIND 8 or 9, but it's very easy to add your own
config file generators for other daemons.
Chaosmap is an information gathering tool and DNS, Whois, and Web server scanner. It can be used to look up DNS names with a dictionary with or without using a salt. Salting for DNS means it will append numbers from 1-9 to the name in the dictionary with or without a - and _ or a leading 0. Salting for Web stuff will try double slashes and some directory traversal tricks. It performs reverse DNS lookups of a whole IP range (with optional Whois lookup) and dictionary scans for hidden paths on one Web server or a range of IP addresses. Optionally you can encode a path with URL encoding use Google dict lookup mode to find the path on Google and only query the Webserver if there are no search results. It can also extract email addresses from domains using a Google search or perform a list of Google Hacking queries on your domain.
s6-dns is a small, efficient, complete, and IPv6-ready DNS client library, with synchronous as well as asynchronous APIs. It is designed to replace libresolv in projects that need to perform DNS resolution. It also comes with small command-line utilities to make common and not so common DNS queries.
Phreebird is a DNSSEC proxy that operates in front of an existing DNS server (such as BIND, Unbound, PowerDNS, Microsoft DNS, or QIP) and supplements its records with DNSSEC responses. Features of Phreebird include automatic key generation, realtime record signing, support for arbitrary responses, zero configuration, NSEC3 "White Lies", caching and rate limiting to deter DoS attacks, and experimental support for both Coarse Time over DNS and HTTP Virtual Channels. The suite also contains a large amount of sample code, including support for federated identity over OpenSSH. Finally, "Phreeload" enhances existing OpenSSL applications with DNSSEC support.
dhcp-utils is a set of utilities for managing DHCP
servers. ddc is for dhcp daemon control, and is
similar to apachectl for ISC dhcpd. dhcping is
used to ping a dhcp server with REQUEST or INFORM
packets. dhcpdump is a filter for tcpdump used to
debug dhcp packets.

GnuDIP is a application designed to allow an ISP to publish a DNS hostname for a customer without having to assign a static IP address. Customers can maintain the address information via a CGI on the ISP's website. For those who are familiar with the dyn.ml.org part this is a simple replacement package.
