NiftyName is a system for creating and managing virtual machine pools and all related components such as storage, private and public networks. It is intended to be used as a free alternative to Amazon EC2 and Microsoft Azure. All components have been designed for multi-site active redundancy, though this is not supported yet. Its architecture is based on documented XML-RPC (SSL) Web services, so you can make your own derivative tools for it. Console and GTK+ client applications are provided. VMs are based on KVM. It supports IPv6, private VLANs, multiple interfaces, user/client management, permissions, and roles.

KaOS is a lightweight, multi-purpose embedded Linux platform designed for virtualization and cloud computing applications. KaOS is based on Linux KVM and is a true enterprise grade hypervisor platform. KaOS makes it easy to deploy KVM based virtualization solutions. KaOS is a lightweight platform, less than 10MB in size. The SDK provides everything necessary to rebuild the platform and comes with scripts to assist with building a KaOS-enabled Linux kernel. KaOS has a menu-driven CLI called AppQueue and a management process that replaces init and other functions called kattach.

NexentaStor is a unified storage solution that installs on standard hardware and provides enterprise class storage at a fraction of the cost of legacy, proprietary storage solutions. NexentaStor is particularly well suited for virtualized environments thanks to the ability of NexentaStor to eliminate duplication of primary data storage, to manage the storage for virtual environments from one interface, and to leverage SSDs to address the random I/O and boot storm issues with virtual environments.

Surealived is a effective LVS (Linux Virtual Server) service tester. It is based on epoll and allows you to detect your hosts' state using HTTP, TCP, DNS, exec, and a universal LUA embedded tester. SSL is also supported. Testers are dynamic modules, and you can extend and write your own modules. You can also dynamicaly change the weight or set real states at run-time. Test states are injected into the kernel IPVS table using the ipvssync application. Configuration is highly extensible, so many testing protocols can be implemented easily.

TurnKey phpBB is an extremely easy way to get up and running with phpBB in just a couple of minutes. It's a pre-integrated turnkey server based on Ubuntu that is packaged as a Live CD image capable of supporting installations on both physical and virtual machines, including VMWare, Xen, VirtualBox, and KVM. It features a small footprint, automatic security updates, a rich Web administration interface, and an easy to use configuration and installation console.

Aloofix is conceptually similar to the Ubuntu JeOS (Just enough OS), but much more aggressive when it comes to the term "just enough". The build environment consists of a collection of Makefiles, scripts, and configuration files capable of creating a bootable ISO image. This ISO image contains a small set of scripts and utility programs for installing Aloofix on a primary hard drive in a VM environment. The build environment provides the raw materials for creating and provisioning a set of guest instances for VirtualBox, VMWare, and Qemu.

imvirt is a Perl script that tries to detect if it is called from within a virtualization container. This is detected by looking for well-known boot messages, directories, and reading DMI (Desktop Management Interface) data. The following containers are detected: Virtual PC/Virtual Server, VirtualBox, VMware, QEMU/KVM, Xen (para and non-para virtualized), OpenVZ/Virtuozzo, UML, and any HVM providing CPUID 0x40000000 detection.

CloudStack is a complete package for managing cloud computing and virtual infrastructure. It enables users to easily build, manage, and deploy private and public clouds. CloudStack provides an integrated software solution for delivering virtual data centers as a service, delivering all of the essential components used to build, deploy, and manage multi-tier and multi-tenant cloud applications in a simple-to-install software package. The CloudStack platform includes a management server with a Web user interface and extensions to support a variety of hypervisor software (e.g. XenServer, Xen VMware, and KVM) installed on computing nodes running across multiple networks. The centralized management server scales linearly, eliminating the need for intermediate cluster-level management servers. CloudStack automatically configures a guest virtual machine’s networking, storage, and authentication settings. The software can also integrate with physical components such as switches, routers, load balancers, and firewalls.

Poor Mans Storage Appliance creates a Virtual Appliance which can join an HA cluster to create shared storage for a virtualized environment.

TurnKey WordPress Appliance is a server appliance for WordPress, a leading blog publishing platform. It is designed to be easy to use and easy to maintain. Security patches are automatically installed. It provides a Web management interface, configuration console, and an AJAX Web shell. To minimize footprint the appliance is built from the ground up with the minimum required components. It runs everywhere thanks to multiple build formats, including an installable live CD, a VMDK with OVF support, and an Amazon EC2 AMI.

WebVirtMgr is a libvirt-based Web interface for managing virtual machines. It allows you to create and configure new domains, and adjust a domain's resource allocation. A VNC viewer over a SSH tunnel presents a full graphical console to the guest domain. KVM is currently the only hypervisor supported.
