Try '/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs -nw' instead of '/ 
Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/emacs -nw'.


By the way, John, please join the mailing list. Messages from non- 
member addresses need administrators' approval. Sometimes we forget
