John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix, Windows, DOS, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash types commonly found on Unix systems, as well as Windows LM hashes. On top of this, lots of other hashes and ciphers are added in the community-enhanced version (-jumbo), and some are added in John the Ripper Pro.

MD5 eo SHA-1 com base tenha sido acelerada com intrinsics SSE2. md5_gen foi ampliada com mais tipos de hash. O suporte a UTF-8 foi adicionado ("- utf8"). MPI apoio paralelização para todos os modos de fissuração foi integrado. Paralelização OpenMP suporte foi adicionado à mais tipos de hash. Novos formatos foram adicionados: mskrb5 (ataque offline no MS Kerberos 5 dados de autenticação pré-lançamento), rawMD5unicode (MD5 da UCS plaintext-2 codificados) e salted_sha1 (maior rapidez na resolução de alguns} {SSHA LDAP hashes). New formats have been added: mskrb5 (offline attack on MS Kerberos 5 pre-authentication data), rawMD5unicode (MD5 of UCS-2 encoded plaintext), and salted_sha1 (faster handling of some LDAP {SSHA} hashes). The "unique" program, Markov mode, ETA display, and programming interfaces have been enhanced.
