SlimServer provides an elegant and easy to use interface for playback of music stored in many audio formats, and supports Internet radio stations, playlist management, Web access, and an infrared remote control. The music remains on the host computer and streams over the network to any streaming audio client.

xmms-alarm is a plugin which allows XMMS to be used as an alarm clock. It features alarm start time, sleep time (so the alarm will stop after a while), volume fading time, loading a seperate playlist for the alarm, executing a shell command when the alarm goes off, and the option to choose a starting volume when fading.

libopendaap is a library used to access iTunes shares. It can be used to browse and play music on various iTunes shares on the local network.

madman is a music manager application in the vein of Apple's iTunes and its many clones. It serves as a tag editor, a media library, and a CD burning frontend, and is extensible through plugin scripts. Dynamic playlists and powerful search features allow you to listen to better music all the time.

ximp3 is a simple console MP3 player. It is based on the Xing decoder (also used in FreeAmp).

Qmmp (Qt-based Multimedia Player) is an audio player with a user interface similar to Winamp or Xmms. Alternative user interfaces also are available.

audiopreview is a command-line tool that plays
previews of many audio file types (Ogg, MP3, etc.),
video file types (AVI, MPEG, Real, etc.), and Internet
streams. It can also be used as a regular command-line media file player (i.e. play the files entirely like yauap or mpc123 would).

JavaLayer is a 100% Java library that decodes,
converts, and plays MP3 files in real time. It
does not require JMF. It supports MPEG 1/2 layer
1/2/3 formats.

Tunez is an MP3/Ogg jukebox that works with a
voting system. You can vote for your favorite
tracks via the Web interface, and the Tunez daemon
will take care of the rest. It is ideal for shared
work environments and LAN parties. Tunez also
works equally well as an interface to an Icecast
server (v2.0 is supported via Ices v0.3). Tunez
makes it easy to update ID3 tags for all your
MP3s. Support for grabbing Amazon art in included
for all of your favorite albums. A full user/group
permission scheme is available so that you can
customize Tunez for your own use.

TCVP is a modular and configurable audio and video player, transcoder, and streamer. Most popular file formats and codecs are supported. It
can be used from the command line or with a GUI. A flexible skin-based GUI is included, as well as a converter for XMMS/Winamp skins.

MP3do is an "all in one" bash script. It is useful for decoding and mastering audio files. It can decode a list of MP3 or Ogg Vorbis files to WAV or CD-R, auto-convert poor quality MP3s to 44100Hz stereo, check whether all files fit on a CD, normalize all WAV files (adjust the volume to a standard volume level), and burn a CD.

MP3 STATION is a LIRC-aware, plain-text tool set
for managing MP3 playback in a car or home with as
little user interaction as possible. It can
restart the last playlist at the last played
track/frame, transparently load directories,
transparently recompile playlists, and keep a
repository of all the playlists. It also has two
simple clients for communicating with cm3s (a
curses console client and a very basic one on a
parallel port). All programs run under a
non-privileged user account.

Gronk is a Web-based MP3 jukebox. It generates heavily-hyperlinked Web pages listing all of your ripped CDs, by extracting information from CDDB data. These Web pages allow easy selection of songs or albums to play, and when nothing has been explicitly selected, it selects songs randomly. Playback is done via either XMMS or mpg123.

KMencoder is a frontend for Mplayer/Mencoder.
