Perl Snapshot Is Not Incremental Backup backs up Samba (or Microsoft
Windows) shares to central disk space using LinNeighborhood mount
scripts as configuration files. The disk space is organized into
multiple directories named after the server, share, and date. Each dated
directory contains a snapshot of all the files on the exported share on
the particular date. Disk usage is reduced by using hardlinks to keep
multiple full copies of files available.

tarmill compresses and encrypts tar archives, and
is designed for use in backup scripts. Unlike most
other solutions, each archive member is handled
separately, so damage in the middle of the archive
does not render the rest of the archive unusable; it
is possible to resume at the next readable member
header. Compressed and encrypted archives remain
valid tar files, so any well-behaved tar
implementation will be able to list (but not extract)
them.

iPodBackup is a tool that backs up your home folder to an
iPod using rsync. You can back up to a plain folder, to an
encrypted disk image, or a regular disk image. You can also
customize a list of items to be excluded.

Jauus is a software patching program that works over the Internet
by making a single TCP connection to a host server. It works on any
Java-supported platform for any language or file type. The client/server
sees each file as an object, and passes it over the network as such.

recover automates some steps as described in the Ext2fs-Undeletion-howto in order to recover a lost file. This utility will greatly increase your file recover rate. People who do not know how to undelete a file are encouraged to use this utility.

Fileprune will delete files from a collection,
targeting a given distribution of the file
timestamps within time as well as size, number,
and age constraints. Its main purpose is to keep a
set of periodically-created backup files to a
manageable size while still providing reasonable
access to older versions. The algorithm used for
pruning is based on an exponential, Gaussian
(normal), or Fibonacci distribution, and supports
collections of files stored at irregular intervals.

SnapRAID is a backup program for disk arrays. It uses a disk of the array to store redundancy information, and it allows you to recover from a disk failure. SnapRAID is mainly targeted for a home media server, where you have a lot of big files that rarely change.
